Newborn workshop with Rachel Vanoven

Oh my word…I don’t even know where to start with this post! First of all, I have a very deep love for working with newborns. But as much as I have enjoyed it since I started doing newborn sessions (two years ago) I felt I could get better. Working with these tiny, brand new, beautiful babies is SO different than any other type of photography session. And I’m a firm believer in getting educated when it comes to handling these little balls of sweetness(: I have followed Rachel Vanovens work for a couple of years now and when she released the dates for her 2013 Newborn workshops back in August of 2012..I contacted her that night! And am SOOO glad I did! My husband and I talked and because we were (and still are) in the process of adopting a beautiful little girl..we felt it would be best for him and both girls to stay put in Georgia. So I asked my sister and our mutual best friend to go with me all the way to Indianapolis. Of course they were thrilled! I have to throw in there that Mandie and Paula were a huge encouragement to me on this trip! They helped book flights, hotels and taxi’s for me so I could concentrate on my workshop. Through emails I starting talking with the other four girls attending this workshop and I got along great with all of them! One was even sweet enough to offer to pick me up each morning for class! Thanks again Patty(:(: And Sarah was staying in the the same hotel as me, so we had breakfast and coffee each morning together—while talking about our daughters and bragging about how cute and sweet the each are(: LOVED that she enjoyed talking about her husband and daughter as much as I enjoy talking about my own(: We met up with Rachel and her fabulous assistant’s, Karis and Jay, the night before our fist workshop day. Dinner felt like hanging out with old friends! I loved it! And I knew these next two days would be so fun. And I was right(: Rachel is SO incredibly humble…she is very down to earth and although she is like a celebrity in our eyes..she sees herself as a wife/mother/photographer. And in that order too. Learning from her was so great! And spending time with the other four photographers along with Karis and Jay..just made this trip ten times more worth it! Karis is Rachel’s sister and probably one of the nicest people I have met. Her laugh and smile (and her *creepy hugs*…lol) make you feel like you’ve known her for so long. I know she misses me and wishes we could be best friends(;..right Karis??(: Jay and I got along great! She told me I was awesome several times…haha….we both have experience with adoption and that made me feel like we had a connection(: I hope my future newborn sessions show how much I learned and I hope I can meet up again with all these fabulous woman I was so honored to meet and sped time with! Thank you Rachel, Karis and Jay for making all of us feel so at ease and for making this workshop so much fun!! Sorry for blabbing, I could have said so much more but I’ll hush now—and let you enjoy some cute babies and some fun behind the scenes pictures(:
